Why You Should Have a Morning Routine

One of the things that help us have a productive day or be successful has to do with not only just our habits, skills, or people that we know, but also the morning routine that we perform on a daily basis. It is one of the most important things that can determine whether or not you will start the day off in a productive manner or with a slump. There are a lot of morning routines out there, but I will only list a few.

STEVE JOB’S MORNING ROUTINE: ONE SIMPLE QUESTION

Back in 2005, Steve Jobs gave a commencement speech at Stanford. One of the lines he said was actually his morning routine. He used this as a motivational tactic to start off his day in a productive manner.

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been no for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

Powerful. Deep. Motivational. This question is effective because it helps you discover what unproductive tasks that you were planning to do and to potentially remove any excuses for doing it. It might work for some people, it might not for others. Would asking this question help you stay focused and keep your goals and priorities in perspective? Let me know in the comments below.

COMMON MORNING ROUTINE HABITS PERFORMED BY THOSE WHO ARE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL

They Take Time to Reflect

In a world filled with noise and distractions, it is very easy to lose sight of what’s important and what’s not. That’s why before starting the day out, many successful people take time to clear their mind of any distractions and outside noise to get their priorities straight and their mindset on track. There are many ways to do this: yoga, meditation, or simply just quietly reflecting on the things they’ve done so far. I personally do this often to help eliminate any stress as well as to get myself in the right frame of mind regardless of what horrid or tedious tasks that is to come. It also helps me organize my priorities and actions better.

They Exercise

In the morning, most people are still groggy after a good night’s sleep, and staying awake is tough. One great way is to get the heart pumping and some oxygen flowing through your bloodstream. Exercise does just that, as well as helping you get your body in shape or stay in shape. After all, one of the most important assets besides time is our health. A simple jog around the block or a few stretches will do the trick. Others might lift a few weights here and there, play a short round of basketball, or whatever physical exercise they prefer.

Breakfast is Important

Sadly, this is one tip that I fail to accomplish the most, and that is to eat a healthy breakfast every day. After all, our body needs its vitamins and nutrients to stay energized for the busy day ahead of us.
